Linoleum
was our first material process. We worked with several artists from dance, costume design, media and production -making our way through the methodology over six months. We recoded sounds from the material and played with projections, patterns, gestures and light. The team filmed the sequences of material into two short films.
Wool
was our focus for a month-long artist residency at Cortex Frontal in Arraiolos Portugal in the fall of 2023. We studied specific stitches that orignated in this region and obsessed about the mechanics of the loom. Like our linoleum work, we created sounds from the wool and developed several short videos of materials and movement.
Plastic Wrap
started with sound. We worked with the Westport Sunrise Sessions collective in Vermont and performed the same methodology with sound. We recorded sounds with plastic wrap, covered acoustic instruments and made short videos. We then translated the same research with dancers in the studios back in Vancouver BC. We filmed this work along with the wool project in the late fall of 2023.
